Abstract

Since 1994 there has been a concerted effort to record the period of apartheid in South African history. This includes the collection and exhibition of materials and artefacts. Some of these materials, for example, propaganda posters and apartheid signage, are displayed in public spaces such as the Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg. The South African History Archive (SAHA), located at the William Cullen Library at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, houses a growing number of political ephemera (t-shirts, banners, buttons) and propaganda posters.
