About the Journal
De Jure Law Journal (DJLJ) was published for the first time in 1968 as Scintilla Juris. The journal has been systematically developed and promoted by dedicated academics in the Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria.
Articles, case notes and book reviews covering the full spectrum of legal disciplines have appeared in De Jure Law Journal. It has made a significant contribution to the development of legal research in South Africa. Contributions published in the journal have frequently been cited, both by academics and in the courts. The journal accepts contributions primarily in English. All submissions are subjected to substantive in-house screening and double anonymised peer review to ensure that every publication makes a contribution to current discourses in South African law.
Since 2011 the journal is published by the University of Pretoria Law Press, an independent, non-profit press based at the Faculty of Law in the Centre for Human Rights at the University of Pretoria. DJLJ is an Open Access Journal, and in 2019 the journal moved to a continuous publication model to increase visibility, readership and the impact of publications.
To date DJLJ has played an important role in the development of the law of South Africa. Every effort will be made to ensure that it remains a flagship of the Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria and of legal research in South Africa.
